Alpines & Heathers
As you’d expect from plants that originated on high mountains, most varieties of alpine will happily cope with harsher conditions such as high winds, low temperatures, and poor or dry soil – making them a perfect choice for more exposed gardens. Alpines don’t like wet conditions, so good drainage is needed to keep them in tip-top health, and they also like plenty of sun.
Heathers are used to growing on moorlands and heaths, so they’re also hardy plants that can cope well with the cold and thrive in exposed sunny positions. Get creative with your planting, alpines and heathers create lovely displays – and they’re not just for rockeries!
